In the same year, one hundred settlers arrived in the town from Weymouth, England and the early settlers in the town were engaged in farming and fishing activities.

The population of the town gradually increased and by the American Revolution, there were roughly 1,400 inhabitants of Weymouth living in simple wooden houses.
