In 1965, a boat sail from Falmouth, Massachusetts to Falmouth, England took seventy-eight days and the journey was undertaken by Robert Manry.
The train came to Falmouth in the mid-19th century and around the same time, the first set of summer homes in the town were established. The railroad service connected Falmouth and other parts of Cape Cod to Boston.
The Otis Air National Guard Base, a crucial fort during World War II was located very close to Falmouth and contributed to the opening up of the town.
In the late 19th century, Highfield Hall was built by James Madison Beebe on the land he bought. The land was over 700 acres and most of it is now preserved as the Beebe Woods. Highfield Hall is now a museum.
There are seven historic districts in Falmouth and four of them are listed on the US National Register of Historic Places; North Falmouth Village, West Falmouth Village, Falmouth Green Village, and Waquoit.
There are ten individual sites in Falmouth that are also listed on the US National Register; Central Fire Station, Woods Hole School, Falmouth Pumping Station, Lawrence Academy, Nobska Light, Poor House and Methodist Cemetery, Crowell-Bourne Farm, Josiah Tobey House, Teaticket School, Elnathan Nye House.
Falmouth plays host to a vibrant theatre community, thanks to the Highfield Hall. Since 1969, the College Light Opera Company has performed at the hall in the town every summer.
Every year in December, Falmouth holds a Christmas parade along the Main Street in the downtown part of Falmouth.
