How To Install Your Honeywell Motion Detector

When planning out the best DIY home security system for you, finding the right level of protection at the right price is the name of the game.

When it comes to creating large-scale coverage without adding a ton of equipment, the interior protection of motion sensors is always going to give you the biggest bang for your buck.

A single Honeywell motion sensor will cover a range of 35 feet in length and 40 feet in width.

Instead of placing contacts on every door and window in a space (expensive) you can place one motion sensor to trip if someone gets in through a number of those entry points.

The Honeywell motion detector takes about 15 seconds to install and has a sleek, compact design that is ideal, especially when aesthetics or discretion are critical. Check out our how-to-videos to see just how simple and easy it is to install your own motion detectors.

Worried you cannot get this value because you have pets? Well no need, our Honeywell wireless motion detectors are pet-immune for dogs that weigh up to 80 pounds.

To get the most coverage and best range out of your motion detector, Honeywell recommends installing it roughly 6 feet off the floor, but no higher than 9 feet. In all my years of physically installing this equipment, I find 7 feet to be the perfect sweet spot.

Place your motion sensor in either a corner of the room or on a flat surface. Make sure the surface is clean and dry so it adheres well.

The battery in most Honeywell motion detectors will last 4-5 years, so there is no need to stress about constantly replacing them.

If our Honeywell wireless motion sensor does not detect motion in its path when the system is armed, it will put itself into a sleep-like state for five minutes in order to help preserve battery life.

Your DIY smart security system has two arming features, "Armed Away" and "Armed Stay." In "Armed Stay" mode your system will arm all your doors and windows, but will automatically bypass all motion detectors.

This allows you to walk around your house freely without fear of tripping the alarm system. "Armed Away" will arm all your security devices, including the motion sensors, giving you protection in the event someone uninvited tries to enter the property.

A Honeywell security system can save you time, money, and make your home more comfortable, reduce your carbon footprint, and save energy costs this fall. See why over 27,000 properties trust us with their safety and comfort.
