Police have arrested three Braintree men who are suspected of invading a home in Hanson last weekend.
The homeowner was still in their Adams Circle residence when the masked men smashed through a sliding glass door around 7 p.m. on Saturday. Fortunately, the homeowner was able to escape and call the police.
Two of the suspects were still in the immediate area when the police arrived, while one fled and was found on State Street not long after.
The homeowner fled and called police, who located the two suspects in the immediate area around the home, while a third fled and was arrested on State Street. That suspect, Giovanni Rodrigues, 23, was found to have a knife on him.
Three young men (Rodrigues, 23, Christian Paiva, 19, and Christopher Paiva, 22) were charged with breaking and entering while armed, malicious destruction of property over $250 and larceny over $250.
Police successfully recovered the property that was taken from the home. Property taken from the home was later recovered by police.
All three were held on cash bail for arraignment Monday in Plymouth District Court.
What should do if I’m at home when a burglar breaks in?
Get everyone out of the house, yourself included. Don’t stick around and gather your valuables; your safety is priceless.
If you don’t have a monitored alarm system, call the police. Response time can vary depending on your neighborhood, but calling them is still necessary in order for you to file an insurance claim.
Set off your car alarm if you’ve got your keys on you. Loud noises can get an intruder to quickly back off.
Armed confrontation is something that you should use only if you have no other options. Use mace, or if that’s not legal in your state, use bear spray. If that’s also not an option, there’s wasp/hornet spray.
Make sure you establish a contingency plan with your family so that they know how to respond to not just home invasions, but other emergencies as well like fires. The last thing you want to be doing in a crisis is have to stop and give instructions.
