On Tuesday afternoon the internet seemed to have crashed for many people. This is mostly due to the fact that Amazon's servers went offline, severely impacting many sites and devices that rely on their servers to function.
This crash has affected many home automation gadgets like Alexa. Nest's app was unable to connect to thermostats and other devices for a period of time.
Home automation equipment like thermostats and lights are likely to continue to have difficulty operating until Amazon servers are back up and running. Amazon says they are working on the problem and you can check the status of the problem here.
Here's why this is important: These outages can also impact that new alarm you just purchased, disabling app-enabled devices communicating through the internet. If this were to happen in an emergency, your Amazon-reliant system would no longer be able to protect you.
We strongly suggest investing in Honeywell's Lyric Home Automation products, which were not impacted by this outage. To learn more about home automation products that are safe, secure, and make your life at home easier, view our products overview page.
